Biography
Dr. Michael Vicic has over fifteen years experience in
modeling complex systems, multivariate data analysis, and
program management. He joined the department in Fall
2003.
Currently, Dr. Vicic is a lecturer for undergraduate
laboratories in Chemical Engineering (ChE126, ChE128)
and Chemistry (Ch15), is the course coordinator for Freshman Chemistry
(Ch1ab), and is the lab coordinator for the Undergraduate
Laboratory for Molecular Engineering. In previous years he
was a lecturer for undergraduate Transport Phenomena
(ChE103abc). He is also the Head Advisor for the CA-B chapter
of Tau Beta Pi.
Prior to joining the Department of Chemical
Engineering, he co-founded Array Dynamics (AD). AD's mission
was simple--develop a device that a diabetic can wear to
continuously monitor blood glucose levels in a non-invasive,
discreet manner. Despite a promising technical solution,
unique product concept and novel business model, AD was unable
to raise sufficient funds.
Before founding Array Dynamics, he was a product and
program manager for Cyrano Sciences, Inc. and was responsible
for the development, evaluation, and implementation of
intelligent sensor networks, software for process monitoring,
sensor manufacturing processes, and proprietary algorithms for
multivariate data analysis. Prior to Cyrano Sciences, Dr.
Vicic was a specialist in the rheology of complex fluids at
Caltech in Prof. Brady's group, where he predicted rheological
properties of dispersions, emulsions, and polymer solutions
and verified many of these predictions with experiments. Dr.
Vicic has additional experience at The Dow Chemical Company
and The University of Akron in the areas of latex production,
foam extrusion, coextrusion of multi-layer polymeric
materials, melt-phase thermoforming, solid-phase graft
copolymerization, and desulfurization of coal. He holds more
than 10 patents.
